I grew up knowing two of my great grandparents but only remember conversations with one of them. I believe today that more children will know and have interactions of note with great grandparents, as I do with my three great grandchildren. One of life’s unknowns is whether or not we will be remembered after we are gone. It is often said that we don’t truly die until are names are no longer spoken. I for one find that a curious take but understand it’s sentimentality. Reflecting on my life, looking into the future and how best I can leave a legacy without hurting my immediate financial wellbeing the concept of a trust seems the best course. For the less financially fortunate the cost of setting up a trust and funding it is quite daunting. Now along comes the Mathmatecum and provides the best features of a trust without the high costs and with the lowest risk possible.

This being the beginning of the Mathmatecums  sixth year of operation certain numbers seem to be holding. The ones that are most pertinent here are that on average a person’s membership fee is $70 and that the percentage return last year was 4.28%. If a member wishes to create a Directive at this time, they can be assured of earning at that rate for at least the next six months. The Mathnatecum need not be generational. However, if it is – what a way to avoid time constraints on how long this trust like device can pay out. Not only is this a way to passive income but also a way to generational income.

For those of you who have followed us in this blog over the last few years and have invested in I-bonds be aware that interest rates on those bonds will change on May1st. If you plan to keep these bonds long term, then you should consider selling what you can in early April. Then rebuying them before April 31st even though there might be a 3-month penalty and tax implications. The reason to do this is because the interest on the new bonds will payout at the guaranteed rate of at least1.37% for the next 30 years!!!  I-bonds have not had such a high rate in over a decade. During that time frame there were times when the rate was zero. Also note the Mathmatecum was designed only expecting a 2% yearly gain to be ultra conservative in creating long range financial predictions.

I do consider myself to be a movie buff. During this past month and as a lead up to the Oscars, TCM has had a monthlong parade of films that have won at least one Oscar. The other day they showed a movie directed by Sergio Leone from 1984 with Robert De Niro. I had never seen the movie. Had I known how long it was (almost 4 hours) and how violent, I would have passed on it. Just the week before I mentioned a treat I loved when I was young (7–8-year-old) called a Charlotte Russe. I tried hard to describe it but failed to do a very good job. How wonderful it was to see a Charlotte Russe portrayed in the film!  I had forgotten it came with a cherry on top. It was a treat for me to see it and also payment for sitting through a 4-hour movie.
