Taking a page from a couple of my favorite late-night TV hosts who announced Friday that they were doing their last show of 2022, I will do the same with this blog. I will return on 1/9/23.
Within the next eight weeks the Mathmatecum will be sending out to its members the fourth consecutive yearly distribution. The yields on the first monies held for members were at 2.9% then down for a year and then way up in the 9% range and then this year in the 6% range. With but 12 days to go it is highly unlikely that the return will change substantially. Currently 98% of members monies are held by the US Treasury and the other 2% in an FDIC insured bank. These first four years have exceeded the 2% goal of anticipated return when the Mathmatecum was initiated.

When each year comes to a close, I personally guesstimate my assets and liabilities and decide what to do financially over the next year. I suggest you do the same and if you have not already done so, join the Mathmatecum! Not only will you receive yearly income but at least a yearly reminder to be smart about personal finances. Joining before 12/31/22 will secure a check for you or who you gift a membership to in the next 8 weeks.

The last report of the January 6th committee came out today wherein the 9 members unanimously agreed to refer the Ex-president of the US to the DOJ for further inquiry of four different crimes committed. To preserve our democracy our legislators need to modernize our existing but archaic laws. One of the bulwarks of our great nation is the concept that there should be a separation of church and state. The concept is concise, yet many treat the constitution as if was some solemn writ. The great religious treaties do not have within them a way to change the texts, but the constitution does. The founding fathers knew at the very beginning that they could not anticipate the future so left it to later generations to change or fix their work when necessary.

BIO
Nine years old and a memory that was filled with so many things that were both personal and for all life changing. Checking with Google I am today reminded of the big news of 1951. First there was nuclear bomb testing taking place in Nevada, direct dialing coast to coast, and the newly developed birth control pill. Today some 71 years later the media outlets are discussing whether or not nuclear weapons will be used by Russia against Ukraine. There is a fear by some in this country that access to contraception may be curtailed! I regularly speak from here in Hawaii to friends on the East coast for the same price as a call to my next-door neighbor. Science can change things better than commonly held beliefs.

Since there are so many children in our lives there comes the discussion of does this or that child still believe in Santa. I have my own personal story in that regard, of course I was younger than 9 but had to be at least 7. I was an altar boy and was asked to serve midnight mass. I was pleased to be asked but of course if there really was a Santa how would it work with me gone from the house after midnight? Walking home from church with my mother, my dad was working the 4 to midnight shift, she assured me it would all work out but please don’t make any noise at home because my dad would certainly be sleeping. When we entered our apartment there was lite coming from the living room where our tree was. My mom had made sure to put off the Xmas lights to be safe before we went to church. When we got closer to the room, I could hear my father snoring. When I entered the room, my father was sound asleep with a new train set running under his legs! Santa had been there and when I checked, his cookies were gone! That was my extra year of believing!
Have a blessed holiday season.
