Mea Culpa Mea Culpa! By now if you are a reader of this blog, you know I live in Hawaii. It is the fiftieth state and like Alaska it is not contiguous to the other 49 states, a good number of American citizens are not aware of that. In Hawaii there are legal holidays celebrated here which are not celebrated in any of the other states but are a big deal. Yesterday was one of those and somehow in my aging mind I thought of it as just another Sunday and forgot to write my blog! I apologize.
Now the banking system! I like lots of people am not talking stock due to the current uncertainties in the markets or the very good CD rates but of course now the strength of the whole banking system is once again suspect. And the beat goes on. Long range Government insured investments show their value. Not since the days of Jimmy Carter have returns been so good. Of course, timing is everything. Be aware that rates on I bonds will change. You have until April 30th to get the current rate of 6.89% for six months or gamble and hope the rate goes up on May first. Because the Mathmatecum has no idea when new membership money comes in, that is one less decision that has to be made by the management of the Mathmatecum.
BIO
School year 1954/55, 8th grade grammar school – St. Cecilia, Englewood, NJ: Sisters of Charity! I always thought that was a bit of a misnomer. First time with nuns who couldn’t speak Italian. My father and mother who wanted me to attend St. Cecilia High School but wanted to take no chances I would not be accepted had me schlep every day from New Milford to Englewood. The building was brand new, and we were its first graduating class. Going to the grammar school had an unexpected benefit because there were those of us who were already fast friends before we got to the high school. What a time in life and what a group – the best! The class was even biracial – a first for me. I believe I was the youngest guy and graduated at 13. Three of our classmates had driver’s licenses at graduation, you had to be 17 for a driver’s license in New Jersey.
