i am back home in Waikiki after a five-week vacation on the mainland. Reflecting on the trip, I realize I was in eight states overall! Before leaving I was able to secure a guaranteed income rate for the first 9 months of 2024 at 5.28 % for the entire sum of Members Monies. So far in May membership has increased 1.25%.
Just a reminder for all that everyone should have a savings plan. For the least fortunate financially that means saving 1 hour’s wage per week. That means $7.25 weekly in the backward 20 states that still are at a 15-year unincreased minimum wage. For those more fortunate the goal is to get to 10% of income and then ultimately 20%. For savers start with a savings account at a brick-and-mortar bank as your depository.
During my 5-week hiatus I spent time in 5 states: Tx, Ga, Fl, NC, and SC.! It was almost two years since I saw some of my nearest and dearest. Not wanting to place on my list an order of importance to who I saw and spent time with – know that the top of my list were my three great grandchildren: Houston (11), Harper (9), and Sydney Rose (4)!! They managed to provide me with memories not to be forgotten. All three play baseball or softball. Houston (the oldest) was so impressive with his knowledge of the game. As leadoff hitter he walked at least four times and stole all the bases to score a run on three occasions. He played shortstop and pitched. The last of his games that I saw he was tapped to come in for relief with players on first and second, no outs, and the game hanging in the balance. He bore down and threw 8 strikes in a row and then went full count before striking out the side. What can I say – I have a new hero!!! Not to be undone, his sister Harper while playing 3rd base hit 2 homeruns. Last but not least, (the littlest one) Sydney Rose was able to wack the ball off the T and then run like a deer to first base. She of course has developed the wonderful habit of calling me “great grampa” wherever we are and that gets lots of heads to turn, I just love it!!
It was difficult to leave my home of 30 years – Hilton Head Island! Knowing I was going back to my home in the Hawaiian Islands for the last 18 years, to my sweetheart, my grandsons – AJ and Nik certainly lessened the blow!
