What a week!! Between all the pronouncements from the White House and the sports pundits on the Super Bowl, it was difficult to digest it all. Well, suffice it to say the pundits were wrong about the game. As for the White House – of course I follow these events only in light of how they might or will affect the Mathmatecum. Presently there are now in the courts multiple interpretations of powers set out in the Constitution and some that effect the U.S.Treasury. These are of course of some concern because it is the U.S Treasury that is the guarantor of all the monies invested on behalf of the Mathmatecum. Not to worry though because the sum of all Members Monies presently held is substantially greater than the moneys contributed by members to secure their memberships. Be assured no member will lose any money based on what the courts decide.
This week I was gifted by my sister a book “BEFITTING A FORTUNATE SLAVE” written by one of her dear friends, Davanna Brown. I am currently about halfway through reading it. The book has taken me back in time to when I was in India and doing things similar to what she recounts in her book. What the book triggered in my mind was how sometimes you can distinguish between coincidence and intervention by forces beyond what most of us refuse to accept. The tie that binds here is the Avatar of this age Meher Baba. My sister had become acquainted with Baba and had the opportunity to travel to India with a friend and his mother. Of course, our mother would not give her blessing to such a journey. I prevailed upon her to let my sister take that trip. All went fine until the day mother called to tell me she had lost contact with my sister and that I should plan to leave for India the next day to find her.
I was at the time managing a small restaurant named Ventolinis on Hilton Head Island,S.C.! I had two waitresses working for me: Bellamy Howell and Ann Howard. They were young college age girls and good workers, although their math was not always terrific! Unfortunately, just before opening I told them they must initial their checks so I would know who might have made an error in calculating the checks. I was of course very upset with my family situation and was very distracted in thought with what to do. At the end of the evening when the checks were turned in and tip settlement was to be made, I noticed all the checks had the same initials. I was furious because I could not distinguish which check belonged to which sever. It was only then that I found out that the girls had the same initials “BAH” for they were both named Belamy Ann. BAH for BA Howard, BAH for BA Howell! Well, I certainly took the BAH/BAHs to be a sign that my sister was ok and called my mother to tell her so. My sainted mother had a few choice words for me and my signs, but my sister did call the very next day.
