While discussing the Mathmatecum with prospective and current members – the most frequent ask is ” how do I put more money into the Mathmatecum to earn more of the present great interest rates”? Unfortunately, my response has always been “sorry but that is not available to do”. In light of the current economy most financial experts have upped the suggested percentage of cash holdings in a person’s portfolio especially if near or retired. Though not originally part of the Mathmatecum design we here at the Mathmatecum have come up with a new way to allow that.

First know that for existing members nothing changes and if present members qualify, they can add to their membership stake. To avail oneself of this new and novel feature one must enroll a minimum of FOUR new or existing members in what we call a “Mathmatecum Directive”. Rather than use figures that are not current I will wait until new rates are published next week on May 1st.

Once again let me remind you that rates for I bonds are currently 6.89% and if bonds are purchased before May 1st, it will pay that rate for six months! My suggestion is to do so on or before April 27th to avoid any questions about dates of purchase. I do not believe you can get this rate with virtually no risk for as little as a $25 purchase. BIO

September 1955 to June 1956 Freshmen year at Saints, Ike was President and Elvis Presly had his first hit “Heartbreak Hotel”! Most notably Rosa Parks refuses to sit in the back of the bus.
In about three weeks, good Lord willing, I become 81 years of age! I believe I am the youngest or second youngest of my classmates! For sure we are all octogenarians now. What a time to have lived through and what except for the infirmities of old age what a time to be still alive.

I grew up in a household where we got delivered a morning paper “The Paterson Morning Call” and in late afternoon “The Paterson Evening News”! I bring this up because now many times when I read my morning paper I skim read articles that tell of events that start out by saying back sixty-five years ago as if it’s an historical event! I remember it from reading about it in my daily paper. I digress but of course I’m allowed as I am 80 years old.

The changes in time saw the girls in class in uniforms and the boys in suits or sport jackets and ties. When I now go to see the great grandchildren at school it looks in comparison like their parents didn’t check them before they left the house.
