The last two weeks I postured things governmental. One week I spoke about “Formicalism” and then about tax rates the following week. I received blowback and a request to clarify. Here’s hoping I can separate the two thoughts better in this blog.

“Formicalism” like capitalism, socialism, and communism are economic theories. These theories provide the monies to finance the operation of government. Both communism and socialism do not allow for human nature. The reason is that people do not want to share the fruits of their individual labors with others. An exception is other than who they want to share with. Capitalism recognizes that but fails to restrain the abuses that the more successful impose on others because of the power of their acquired wealth. My belief is that by having a new social contract between the governed and the governing, “Formicalism” can lead to a better and more sustainable future. For those governing, a recognition of individual rights becomes paramount and for those governed – their rights cease when those rights impose on other individuals. A perfect example is when having the right to own an AK47 does not allow for firing it in any place, at any time, in any direction!

Now to go on with what government is to do? It is what is generally accepted to be a governments function of protecting and enhancing people’s well-being. Simple but difficult to achieve, the concept has been disparaged not because of reality but because of a desire for wealth or power and unfortunately usually both.

In the U.S. today the polarization that exists is fueled on both sides by entrenched interests. It cannot and will not be resolved until both sides realize that the politics of governing is supported by public financing and not by parties or special interests. Let the parties work to elect their representatives and let the representatives work for the governed.

Hope this all helped to clear up some confusion I made in my prior blogs.
Mea Culpa!
