What better month than December to think about families? It is the last month of the year and has two great holidays: Christmas and New Year! Both of which traditionally are times for family gatherings. Suffice it to say that this time of year has emotional ups and downs for all concerned. I am all about keeping familial ties strong and finding ways to keep them strong. My life shows me that by working together as a family, great fortunes are made. More is preserved because of the strength in numbers and the strong sense of purpose that family generates.

I, better than most, know because of working with the Mathmatecum that sense of family is not in everyone. If you are one of those however with a strong sense of family and a vision for the future of your family, the Mathmatecum provides a perfect touchstone and a reminder on a yearly basis of your desires for your family.

My sense of family has me almost there when it comes to the family (descendants) of my parents. I am one of three siblings and only two of us have all our nuclear family included in the Mathmatecum. Permission to put a person in the Mathmatecum is not necessary but is something that I believe should be asked for. Hopefully they will join in the future.

Joining the Mathmatecum between now and years end will provide a full year’s income to those new members who join during that time frame. Purchasing an I-bond will yield 6.89% for at least six months. Rates are reset on May 1,2023 and even if the rate goes below the current rate, it will not adversely affect you until six months have expired. If you have any questions, please call and ask.

BIO
Now comes the fun for me doing this bio because 1949 is the first year that I have so many memories of that time! I hope not to bore my readers. Bye the bye – any date that is off by less than a year need not be corrected (lol)!

Singularly the most important event for me was becoming a sibling. May 10, 1949, my little baby brother Cosimo was born!! He is still both those things, little and my baby brother. He matured into the nicest man I have yet to know.
He has been the Abbott to my Costello since the first day he came home from the hospital. Two years earlier my cousin was born at about 10+ lbs. as I recall and was a big and good-looking baby. My brother not so much! Weighing in near six lbs. and looking like my great grandmother who was 95, I was assured that his looks were to change in a short time since he was born dehydrated. For the past 73 years I have told people we just took him home and added water. When he was still quite young people thought him much younger and I of course never corrected them. I told them he was very advanced for his age.
All jokes aside – he’s one helluva guy.

This past week there was a report about a Syrian general whose last name was Abbdy. Living away from school as a Junior at Seton Hall one of my roommates was a Joe Abbdy – also Syrian.
