Twenty-three more days before the interest rate on I-bonds will be adjusted. The rate on these bonds changes every May 1st and November 1st.Currently all the Mathmatecum Monies are held in I-bonds. These monies have been held in either CDs or bonds over the last seven years and as of today are earning at the rate of 4.21% on a monthly basis. The efficacy of the Mathmatecum’s directive as to investment restraints is now totally vindicated. Through these last seven years the Mathmatecum has not only preserved members money but increased its total.
Currently financial markets are in turmoil and the DOW has lost 18% off its high for the year! This is a swing that would have been devastating to the Mathmatecum if it was invested directly in the market. Here in Hawaii local banks are not offering CDs above 4% for six months and nationally none seem to be above the 4.21% we are receiving.
I personally have always been enamored of numbers. They tell the truth but also can be manipulated to serve an end. After this past presidential election and its somewhat surprise result there are those in the losing party who say there is no certainty that they have an edge because of the publics disappointment with the new party in power because of gerrymandering. Voting districts are designed at a local level and favor the state legislatures desires and change arbitrarily from time to time. Under the concept of Formicalism, voting districts for national elections will be accomplished by mathematically dividing the country in 435 or less districts for the house of representatives. The senate seats will be two per state. The house should have two representatives for every senator. The concept of one man one vote should be the guide in the house and not just population numbers by state. Districts for the house should go north to south across the country starting in Hawaii and going east. The ideal would be currently 200 in the house coming from 100 districts.
