As another year comes to an end, I would like to thank everyone who has joined the Mathmatecum this year! I would also like to congratulate those who joined earlier. Before 2/15/25 we will make our 6th distribution! Sadly, last week one of our members passed away. She was 78 years old and was the 5th member to pass since our beginning in 2019.

This will be my last blog until 1/6/25 when there will be some new innovations announced that will affect the Mathmatecum going forward.

I as usual had been making cryptic notes for today’s blog all week. Yesterday it dawned on me that today was my dad’s birthday. Because of the perfect timing relative to the holiday story, I remembered a Christmas made unforgettable by my father. This event happened 75/76 years ago. I was six years old and skeptical of the Santa story.  Both my parents assured me otherwise. Usually, we went to Midnight mass as a family and when we arrived home after mass Santa would have all my presents under the tree. Who knew it was Mama (grandma) who did all the work? This year was different because my dad was working two jobs, and he was too tired to go to church. When my mother and I left for church dad had settled into his favorite chair with a nice big cold glass of water.

Upon returning home as we entered the house, we could hear an unusual but persistent sound. Going into the room where we left dad and the Christmas tree there was dad sound asleep with a train set going round and round between his feet! That’s what kept me believing in Santa at least until the next Christmas. He like most of us was at the time an amateur parent – God bless him he tried!!

Merry Christmas to y’all and a very prosperous and Happy New Year!
